Simone Pianigiani will likely be fired by Fenerbahce if the Turkish powerhouse lose the Euroleague game against Mapooro Cantù on Thursday, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Zeljko Obradovic would be the main candidate to replace the coach of the Italian National Team if his team fails to reach the Euroleague Top 16.

Fenerbahce was the king of the summer market with important signings as Bo McCalebb, David Andersen, Mike Batiste, Romain Sato and JR Bremer.

Pianigiani signed a two-year deal with Fenerbahce last summer. The coach won six consecutive Serie A titles with Montepaschi Siena making history in Italy.

UPDATE (20.44): Kemal Dincer, GM of Fenerbahce, as he read the news on the firing of Simone Pianigiani, contacted Sportando saying that the Italian coach won't be fired. "Pianigiani has a three-year contract with us and he won't be fired. We respect him a lot and we are happy for his work. He is staying with us for at least three years and we are glad for that. Simone is a great coach and a great personality. I hope he will be staying with us for ten years.
