Ergin Ataman: "I had an offer from Italian Basketball Federation"
Ergin Ataman made some statements about the offer from Italian Basketball Association and Galatasaray
Ergin Ataman made some statements to AA reporter; after he won the EuroCup with Galatasaray, he was offered to General Assembly Membership.
He emphasized that he want to come back in future for the success of Galatasaray in Europe and : " As a member of general assembly and a sportsman, i will do everything for Galatasaray Basketball to go further. Galatasaray fans can be sure about that Galatasaray Basketball will be on the summit of Europe and i will be back as having a right in the management. I will never give that idea up. I wanna be a candidate for the Presidency after i fill my 10 years. "
Ataman also stated that he couldnt get the offers he wanted in the transfer period. He has been coaching for so many years and he couldnt find a time to decharge himself. He said that he didn't decide that he should rest and " I couldn't get the offers that i wanted. I had some offers from other teams. So, i didn't want to go down from the level that i'm in."
Experienced coach stated that they had some negotiations with the President of Italian Basketball Federation Gianni Petrucci about coaching the Italian National Team ; " I dedicated myself to the things that i couldn't done in this period. Of course this doesn't mean that i'm going to rest. In Summer, we had meetings with the President Gianni Petrucci. I was a serious candidate. He also seemed so willing about it but at the last minute he called me and told me that he want to continue with a local coach. It is so normal. At the end, when we look at the national teams it is the nature of them. I've had working in Italy and so close to Italian culture thats why i thought that i can be but at the last minute it didn't happen."
Ataman said that if he has an offer from Fenerbahçe Doğuş: " I don't want to say something already but Turkey has its realities. Today, can someone who got into Galatasaray so much get an offer from Fenerbahçe or can this offer be evaluated..Thats a hard question. When you look at the situation as a professional, you should work with any team in the world but we are in Turkey and Turkey has some realities. We are sensitive people so i don't think that i will get an offer from Fenerbahçe and don't think that i can work with them.
Ataman also evaluated the situation that Sinan Güler in and :" It's right when i look at it professional. Sinan is also a player in EuroLeague. I dont think that Galatasaray is in a period of layover. Someday, we are going to be on the summit of Europe. Sinan didnt want to be in there in this period. I also heard that management was not so willing to it. When i talked to Sinan he told me that he couldn't get a serious offer or an insist. If you want to keep a player like Sinan, you should do the necessary things for it. Every player has this dream to play for a team who got the European Championship. "
