Galatasaray lands Austin Daye
The former NBA forward inks in Turkey
Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul started its summer with a bang by signing forward Austin Daye, the club announced Thursday. Daye (2.11 meters, 28 years old) last played for Al-Manama in Bahrain, but starred for Pesaro before that in the 2015-16 season. He averaged 21.3 points and 9.1 rebounds in 21 Italian League games, which would have led the league if he had played the minimum amount of games to qualify. Daye, whose father, Darren Daye, played professionally for a decade in Italy, Israel and France, played parts of six seasons in the NBA for Detroit, Memphis, Toronto, San Antonio and Atlanta. He was on the Spurs roster when they won the 2014 NBA championship. Daye also played briefly for Khimki Moscow Region in 2011, but will make his Turkish Airlines Euroleague debut with Galatasaray.
