Recap of Spor Toto All-Star 2016

With the technical support of Sony Xperia, one of BSL’s sponsors, we built a new voting system and we deployed a new micro web site for the All-Star: BSLAllStar.com. This user friendly approach worked very well; in 12 days of voting, we had 840.000 unique votes, which doubles up the last years total votes (400k). Voting was including every player in the league and the fans were able to follow and see the voting resulst live.

-          Jan Vesely of Fenerbahçe, won the voting with over 52k votes. But unfortunately, Jan had a back injury two days before the All-Star game and he was not able to play. He was in our Team Asia All-Star squad.

-          Cedi Osman was the winner of Team Europe’s voting with over 34k votes.

-          16 teams in BSL. 10 of them is in Asian side of Turkey, 6 clubs in European side.

-          Starting fives of squads are defined by the fan votes. Reserves picked up by coach selection.

-          Ergin Ataman of Galatasaray was the coach of European Side’s All-Stars. Asian Side’s squad is coached by Selçuk Ernak of Banvit as well.

-          Every team had at least one player in BSL’s All-Star events. Kalin Lucas of Rönesans TED Kolejliler was not able to participate at Leaseplan Skills Challenge, due to an unexpected injury.

Spor Toto 2016 All-Star Game

Nothing much to say; a very entertaining game with BSL’s superstars. Asian Squad won with 20: 156-136. Kenny Gabriel of Pınar Karşıyaka putted on a show with 34 points and 12 board, along with some crazy dunks and won the MVP award. Tony Crocker from the Asian Squad made 32 points as well. Joey Dorsey was pretty fun to watch.

-          We made a Twitter video contest with hashtag #AllStarHareketim (It’s like #MyAllStarMove, see the videos on Twitter) before the All-Star and we told our fans that, the winner of the contest will be making the tip off at the All-Star game and will be watching the game from the courtside. -          Two of the game’s three referees are going to retire after this season. They just got honoured by the coaches, when 30 seconds left to the final whistle. Coaches acted like they’re angry, refs (Recep Ankaralı and Engin Kennerman) tried to give them double technical fouls and disqualify but this time the coaches disqualified the refs and the whole crowd gave a big salute to ref duo.

-          The crowd was amazing; a sold out game (despite the heavy weather conditions in İstanbul). Especially the celebrities were suprisingly high. That made an incredible social media exposure. All-Star has been no:1 in Twitter’s TT list for 7 hours, and there have been over 40 millions of interaction.
