Former basketball player Sherron Mills died on Sunday, he was 44

Former basketball player Sherron Mills died on Sunday, Jan. 17 in a Baltimore hospital after succumbing to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as ALS or “Lou Gherig’s Disease.”

He was 44.

Mills started in 48 games for VCU and averaged 11.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per-game over three seasons. All together, he scored 965 points and corralled 563 rebounds as a Ram.

In his final season at VCU in 1992-93, Mills had his best season, averaging 15.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.7 assists per-game. That year the Rams went 20-10 and appeared in the NIT tournament.

In 1996, playing for Cx Orologi Siena, he led Italy’s Serie A league in rebounding.

He played also in Turkey, Spain and France.
