Some of the proposals EuroLeague Commercial Assets made to FIBA in today's meeting
EuroLeague players cannot take part in friendly games with their National Teams, domestic league with no more than 16 teams, European seasons with no more than 45 games
Today there was a meeting between FIBA and ECA (EuroLeague Commercial Assets).
In the official press release, FIBA wrote: Additionally, ECA is conditioning any agreement on the calendar to FIBA accepting also a number of new points, which directly impact the internal organization of National Federations and Domestic Leagues.
According to sources, among ECA requests to FIBA there are:
1) EuroLeague players cannot take part in friendly games with their National Teams and play only in the official competitions.
2) European Domestic League must be with only 16 teams (Italy already ratified that from 2019-2020 Serie A will have 18 teams instead of 16. ACB has 18 teams and also Bundesliga has 18 teams).
3) European Domestic League can’t have more than 45 games per season. (30 games in the regular season and 15 for the playoffs).
FIBA in the official press release added that about ECA proposal "they will consult with the relevant members of the FIBA family (federations, leagues, clubs, players) about the ECA proposals that would affect them, and act accordingly".
