Twelve teams secure places in Second Round of World Cup Qualifiers
Four teams in Europe already qualified for the second phase
Twelve teams from across Americas, Asia and Europe have secured their passage through to the Second Round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers.
Australia, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Serbia and Venezuela already have their places guaranteed to participate in the World Cup Qualifiers Second Round consisting of three windows, taking place in September and November 2018 and culminating in February 2019.
The third window (June 25-July 3, 2018) of the First Round is still crucial to these teams as results of every single game carries over to the Second Round.
All regional Qualifiers for China 2019 see three teams from each group advance to the next phase.
In the Americas, the Dominican Republic dominated Virgin Islands 113-85 to stay undefeated with a 4-0 record and was joined in the second round by Brazil, also 4-0, after their win over Chile in front of a packed 10,550 Goiânia Arena. Canada and Venezuela also advanced with victories that improved their records to 3-1.
In the Asian Qualifiers, Australia is the only team so far to boast a 4-0 record, but the trio of Iran, Kazakhstan and the Philippines also joined them through to the next phase after moving their marker to 3-1.
France, Germany and Greece all improved to unassailable 4-0 marks in their respective groups in the European Qualifiers, while getting to 3-1 in Group G was enough for Serbia to lock their spot as well.
No teams have clinched Second Round places in the African Qualifiers yet, since they have so far played three of their six First Round games.
