With 2018 well and truly underway, there is only one thing that any sports fan is looking forward to and that is the FIFA World Cup which kicks off this summer. Whilst it is still a few months away, eager soccer fans are already thinking ahead about who to place a wager on, who might be in with a chance of winning, and what team to back to win a great cash prize of their own.

- This years even will take place in Russia who won the right to host the event back in 2010. The event will run from June 14th to July 15th 2018.

- There are 32 teams that are taking part in the tournament. Russia automatically qualified due to the fact that they are hosting the event, but other participants include 13 European teams, five African teas, four Asian teams, four South American teams and three from North America, amongst others.

- The tournament will be hosted in 11 Russian locations; Moscow, St Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Kazan, Samara, Volgograd, Nizhny Novgorod, Saransk, Rostov on don, Kaliningrad, and Sochi.

- The World Cup 2018 mascon was designed by a Russian student called Ekaterina Bocharova and she was selected through online voting.

- Each city that hosts a match will be represented by a local ambassador- someone that is famous and was either born in that location or has a strong connection with it.

- We all know that Russia is a big place, but did you know that the distance between the most eastern host city (Ekaterinburg) and the most western one (Kaliningrad) is an impressive 1500 miles? To put that into perspective, that is the distance between London and Moscow!

- The first World Cup was held all the way back in 1930 and it was hosted by Uruguay who also went on to win the event.
