6 leading federations confirm invitation of Euroleague players for World Cup Qualifiers
These federations require ECA to reschedule 2 regular season game-days
MIES. Switzerland - FIBA's national member federations of Germany, Greece, Italy, Russia, Spain and Turkey on Friday signed a joint statement whereby they:
confirm they will invite Euroleague players to represent their national teams for all FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers;
call for Euroleague Commercial Assets (ECA) to reschedule Euroleague game-days in order to avoid clashes with the World Cup Qualifiers;
urge the European Commission to hold ECA accountable for breaching its earlier commitment to accommodate FIBA's new calendar.
The statement also guaranteed their support to fellow national federations that are similarly seeking the release of national team players from Euroleague clubs and confirmed their readiness to use all available remedies in protecting their national teams from the interference of ECA.
The six national federations, which were meeting in Geneva for matters relating to their domestic championships, represent countries that account for 13 of the 16 clubs competing in the 2017-18 Euroleague season.
