ASVEL signs John Roberson
Roberson pens a two-year deal
ASVEL Basket Villeurbanne added fire power to its roster by inking point guard John Roberson to a two-year deal, the club announced Tuesday. Roberson (1.80 meters, 28 years old) arrives from Chalon-sur-Saone, where he averaged 16.1 points on 43.1% three-point shooting, 91.1% free throw accuracy and 6.6 assists in 44 French League games last season. He helped Chalon win the French League title and reach the FIBA Europe Cup final last season, his second in this club. Roberson had one of his best games against ASVEL - 34 points, seven rebounds and six assists for a performance index rating of 48 - to lead Chalon to a 98-68 win last season. He started his career with Zlatorog Lasko of Slovenia and also played for South Carolina of the ABA, BBC Monthey of Switzerland, Sodertalje Kings of Sweden and Atomeromu SE Paks of Hungary before joining Chalon. He led Sodertalje to three consecutive Swedish League titles from 2013 to 2015. "I am very pleased to have been able to sign John as our point guard," ASVEL president Tony Parker said. "His already proved his value, and his attitude suggests he had good chemistry between the staff and his teammates. At the moment, we could not have signed a better recruitment in this position in France."
