Aris Thessaloniki hires Vangelis Alexandris as head coach
L'allenatore torna dopo sette stagioni
A familiar face is back to Aris BSA 2003 seven years after his departure, as the club announced the arrival of head coach Vangelis Alexandris, who will lead the team next season. Alexandris, age 60, played for Aris in the 1970s and led the team to win the 1978-79 Greek League before moving to PAOK and Iraklis. He returned as head coach in 2002 and led the club to win the 2003 FIBA Champions Cup - his second continental trophy after winning the 2001 Saporta Cup title with Maroussi. Alexandris has coached more first division teams than anyone else in the country - Gymnastic Club Larissa, Apollon Patras, Iraklis, Irakleio, Maroussi, PAOK, Aris, Olympia Larissa, AEK, Kolossos Rhodes and Kavala. "I feel like coming back home with my family. We have to work hard and rebuild the team but I have no fear," coach Alexandris said. "Aris has a great tradition and the most dedicated fans ever, so this is a big motivation for all of us. My dream is to win a championship again with this team, but I know that it will be very difficult."
