Olympiacos signs Martynas Gecevicius
Il giocatore arriva da Lietuvos Rytas
Olympiacos signed one of the best young scorers in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague, Martynas Gecevicius, who arrives from Lietuvos Rytas. Gecevicius (1.93 meters, 23 years old) has averaged double figures in each of the last three seasons with L. Rytas – the last two of them in the Euroleague and the previous season 2008-09, in helping Rytas win the Eurocup. Last season Gecevicius recorded 11.7 points on 41.2% three-point shooting and 2.6 assists in 15 Euroleague games. He has also become a regular with the Lithuanian national team, with whom he won a bronze medal at the 2010 FIBA World Championships. Gecevicius played at the Marciulionis Basketball School and for Sakalai Vilnius before joining Rytas in January 2007. In his four-and-a-half seasons with the team, Gecevicius has won two Lithuanian League titles, two Lithuanian Cups and two Baltic League crowns. The move continues the Reds’ recent trend of signing top young players. The team has already added two rookies – Kalin Lucas and Matt Howard – and second-year forward Kyle Hines in recent weeks.
