Olympiacos announced Matt Nielsen

Il giocatore arriva da Valencia

Greece

Olympiacos Piraeus continued to restructure its team by signing experienced big man Matt Nielsen, who arrives from Spanish club Power Electronics Valencia. Nielsen (208, 32) averaged 10.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in the Eurocup last season, helping Valencia win the competition for the second time. He was named to the All-Eurocup First Team last season, bettering his All-Eurocup Second Team selection from the 2008-09 season. In signing for Olympiacos, Nielsen marks his second stint in Greece. He spent the 2004-05 campaign – his first in Europe – with PAOK Thessaloniki. Nielsen began his career in his native Australia with the Sydney Kings, whom he led to the 2003 and 2004 Australian League championships. After one season with PAOK, Nielsen spent three with Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius in Lithuania, where he helped the club win one Lithuanian League championship and two Baltic League titles. He also helped L. Rytas reach the Euroleague Top 16 twice and reach the 2007 ULEB Cup Final. Nielsen is also a member of the Australian national team, with whom he competed at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games.
