Aris Thessaloniki officially signs Jake Cohen
Cohen comes on loan from Hapoel Jerusalem
ARIS B.S.A. announces the acquisition of Jake Cohen. The 25 year old American-Israeli forward (born on September 25, 1990, 2.10m.) forward – center will play for the Emperor the next season and he’s the ninth player to join ARIS this summer ..
Cohen studied at Conestoga High School and the last two years he performed very well. As a junior, he averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds per game and as a senior, increased his averages to 17.6 points, 11 rebounds and had five blocks per game! He was named MVP of the Central League and was included in the third better team in the country.
Cohen joined the Davidson College and played for the Wildcats from 2009 to 2013. In his first year he was the top scorer in his college, something that had to happen in Davidson since Stephen Curry played there. He was named rookie of the year in the Southern Conference.
The most characteristic distinctions in his college career: he was twice the best player of the Southern Conference and at the end of his college career he was in the TOP 10 of the Conference in defensive and offensive rebounds, shots and blocks. In Davidson, he was all all-time best blocker (197), second in free throws made (451), sixth scorer (1,795) and ninth rebounder (747).
Despite his outstanding collegiate career, Jake Cohen was not selected in the NBA Draft, but that did not prevent Maccabi Tel Aviv to invest on him with a four-year contract. The 2013-14 season he played 10 matches in Maccabi Tel Aviv and then was given on loan to Maccabi Rishon Le Zion.
Last season (2014-15) he returned to Maccabi Tel Aviv, playing in 57 matches in all competitions. He had his best performances in the Israeli League. In 40 games (23 as a starter) he averaged 7.78 points (40.5% in three point shots) and 5.79 rebounds.
