Panagiotis Giannakis is 'hungry' to coach again

Sportando had the chance to interview Greek Legend Panagiotis Giannakis during the Euroleague Final Four.

Giannakis reached the Final Four twice in his coaching career with Olympiacos.

How difficult is to reach the Euroleaguen Final Four?
You have to spend a lot of time to work with the players and to keep them in good condition. In Europe teams have to play all the games trying to win. An important part is to work strictly with the club and the communication with the players. You have to have a long rotation because the season is very long.
Coach has to work on offense and defense but also on the mind of the players. The players must be able to react in any situation during the games at home and away. Players have to be able to control every situation without being nervous even in difficulties.
The coach sometimes needs to put the pressure away from the players and put on his own shoulder.

What can you tell us about your experience as head coach of Chinese National Team?
It was a great experience. People love basketball. Chinese people are in love with basketball. I like the people but they have to change their mentality if they want to play in the International basketball. This was the most difficult thing for me. They have old habits outside the floor and inside the floor. It was difficult for me to do my job as I’ve always did and known.

Are you ready to comeback for a full season as head coach?
I am open to coach. I am looking for a good organization because I am hungry to coach. I am waiting but I think I am going to have something to do next season.

Have you ever been close to return to Greek NT as head coach?
There were just rumors. I had great memories with National Team. We did something important with Greece. We changed the way of playing of the National Team. We were a good family and we had great results. I will always remember my time with Greek National Team and I hope them the best in the future.
