Cedevita promotes Veljko Mrsic head coach

Mrsic will replace Jasmin Repesa

Croatia
The two-time Croatian champion Cedevita Zagreb appointed former Croatian playing great Veljko Mrsic as the team's new head coach, the club announced on Monday. For the past two seasons Mrsic served as an assistant to Jasmin Repesa, with whom Cedevita parted ways on Thursday as he signed with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. For 44-year-old Mrsic this will be his fourth head coaching gig, after making his coaching debut with former three-time Euroleague champion KK Split in 2006, then leading former continental champion Italian side Varese in 2007, and also two-time Euroleague champ Cibona Zagreb in 2012. Cedevita is the first club for coach Mrsic where he did not also spend time as a player. His successful professional playing career spanned over 16 seasons, as he grew up with Borac Capljina in Bosnia and Herzegovina before moving to Cibona Zagreb back in 1989. Other than Split and Varese, he also played for Zalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania, Unicaja Malaga, Girona ad Granada in Spain, Olympiacos Piraeus in Greece, Milan in Italy, Nesas and Ulker in Turkey, as well as BC Kyiv in Ukraine.

"Everything happened so quickly. This is a great honor for me, and an obligation for me and the club to raise it all to another level, to at least repeat success that we had in the recent years", Mrsic said. "I am in the club for three years now, I know the team really well, and I believe I will not need much time to get all the strings together."
