FIBA ready to launch their new European League competition
Eight teams will have the license Real Madrid, Barcelona, Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, Anadolu Efes, Fenerbahce, CSKA Moscow and Maccabi Tel Aviv
Board of FIBA is ready to create an earthquake in the European competitions, Mundo Deportivo reported. The government of the European basketball called eight among the best teams to make the proposal for a new European competition, offering economic conditions much better than Euroleague. The eight teams are: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, Anadolu Efes, Fenerbahce, CSKA Moscow and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
FIBA is absolutely dissatisfied about the economic result Euroleague reached, considering Rugby Champions League has a television agreements of a value three times higher. The idea of FIBA is conveying the Euroleague teams into the new European competition for clubs.
The new competition for clubs will allow the teams to increase the incoming money 50% more than the amount Euroleague guaranteed them last season.
FIBA studied a new rule to allow the teams to play in their national leagues without any problem. The idea is to decrease A licences from 11 to 8, removing it from Laboral Kutxa, Olimpia Milano and Zalgiris Kaunas.
The league will be with 16 teams: 8 with A licences, 8 selected by sporting results (National Champions of France, Italy, Germany and Lithuania and 4 coming from a qualifying round in September-October distributed geographically). Wild Cards will totally disappear.
The first round will be with 16 teams (regular season long 30 games) and then quarterfinals and Final Four.
