Kyle Smith moves to Columbia
Il coach lascia St. Mary
St. Mary’s associate head coach Kyle Smith is moving East.
“Kyle will be the next head coach at Columbia,” a source with direct knowledge said.
Smith edged former New Orleans coach Joe Pasternak and NJIT coach Jim Engles, among others.
Smith has been at St. Mary’s since 2001 and was the associate head coach to Randy Bennett for six seasons.
Before coming to Saint Mary’s, Smith spent one season as the top assistant at the Air Force Academy.
A native of Houston, Texas, he graduated from Hamilton University in upstate New York.
Smith replaces Joe Jones, who left to become Steve Donahue’s top assistant at Boston College. Columbia went 11-17 last year, 5-9 in the Ivy League.
