Hofstra's Welsh charged with DWI
L'allenatore è stato fermato per guida in stato di ebbrezza
Hofstra says it has suspended new men's basketball coach Tim Welsh after learning through media reports that he was charged with driving while intoxicated early Friday morning.
School spokeswoman Melissa Connolly said Welsh has been suspended without pay "effective immediately" while the university investigates the charges.
Hofstra hired Welsh in late March. He also coached at Providence and Iona, and spent the past two seasons as a commentator for ESPNU.
Nassau County police say the 49-year-old Welsh was found stopped in his Lexus about 1 a.m. ET at a steady green light at an intersection in Levittown, on Long Island. He was taken into custody and charged with DWI.
Welsh did not answer a call seeking comment and his voicemail box was full.
