NCAA UNDERGROUND: take note for your team in Europe...Michael Carrera - SOUTH CAROLINA

From Venezuela. Tough, strong, can score and help in thousands of ways his team to win…

NCAA

WHERE HE PLAYS – 6-5, 220 guard/forward… can really play any role from 2 to 4 at pro level depending on team structure. As a four is a great asset as he is strong enough and can create mis-match being quick and with reliable outside shot.

PHYSICAL SKILLS – amazingly strong body, can battle in the paint at rebound against players 30 pounds bigger and never struggle to win any physical battle. He’s a warrior with quick feet and great hand-eye coordination and instinct for the ball.

WHERE HE RECEIVES THE BALL AND HOW HE FINISHES – very good in transition as he’s quick considering his body and very strong in attacking the rim, looks to score early. Very aggressive player who can score from catch and shoot situations (good range, very good shot from behind the arc, when his feet are set), as well as off the dribble. Shooting - good spot up shooter; will shoot every time he is open without hesitation; has good range on his shot.
Iso - 1 on 1 situations - can cause mismatches offensively since he can create off the dribble and has decent handles - very aggressive player who can create his own shot and will attack every time he is in Iso situations. Can go either way off the dribble; better finisher with his right hand.
NEGATIVES: sometimes too small when finishing around the rim from non-dynamic situation. He doesn’t always recognize the best shot available for his offense.

WHERE AND HOW HE DEFEND – He’s a multi-dimensional player even more on defense. Top-level defender. Has got quick feet to stay in front of his man even if it’s a 6-3 off guard with quick first step; and is strong enough to battle inside against bigger player. Smart on defensive plays and with the right use of his strong body. Never takes a second off from his defensive task. Crazy rebounder for his size. (almost 8 rebounds per game as a senior in the SEC!!!)

HOW HE PLAYS PICK AND ROLL – offense & defense – depending of the positions he plays he was seen as a ball handler in some cases where he handles the ball and tries to get all the way to the rim - uses his body very well and strength, and knows how to uses angles in order to get to the basket when he attacks off the dribble.
When he plays as a 4 man, he usually pops out of ball screens looking for straight catch and shoot (3s), or to attack 1 on 1 off the dribble from perimeter and get in the paint.
On defense he's quick on the dribbler and strong on the screener. Again, he delights his coach on any defensive aspect.

RIGHT FIT FOR HIM – team with winning culture in a highly competitive league. Will bring points, rebounds and tons of intangibles plus "REFUSE TO LOSE" mentality.
