Nicklas Jønsson, the 6’4 point guard out of Denmark has accepted an athletic scholarship to attend Lander University. Nicklas will begin his freshmen season in August 2016.

The Lander University coaching staff is very excited to sign Nicklas. They see him as a potential impact freshmen. At 6’4 he can play both guard spots and his experience in the top Danish basketball league will make him a great asset.

Nicklas spent one season with Global Squad where he helped the Gold Dragons to their best record in program history. The team went 16-4 and took home one AAU Championship in Baltimore, Maryland. Nicklas’ high basketball IQ was a huge factor in the teams success. He finished 2nd on the team in assists and shot an impressive 47% from the field.

Nicklas is such a team oriented player but still had his share of individual highlights with Global Squad. This included a season high 13 points vs Team Loaded. Nicklas was also an all-around force vs Constitution High School when he tallied 11 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

In the Elevate Hoops Tournament, Nicklas showed he can play against some of the best high school players in the world. Nicklas was a beast in crunch time of the semi-finals. This earned him interest from many NCAA coaches, including Southern Connecticut State University, Harcum College, and Menlo University.

After all was said and done, Nicklas chose to accept the offer from Lander University. He will be playing in one of the most competitive NCAA D-II conferences in the United States. It will provide a great challenge for Nicklas, but he is more than capable of taking it head on.
