NCAA UNDERGROUND: take note for your team in Europe...David Walker - NORTHEASTERN
Underground only the conference he played in… a potential star for Europe.
WHERE HE PLAYS – A complete Guard – can play all perimeter positions, however he is the most effective if offense is ran through him; if he handles the ball and uses ball screens.
PHYSICAL SKILLS – Good length and speed. Not great leaping ability and explosiveness in traffic. Has to get stronger and improve defensive lateral speed.
WHERE HE RECEIVES THE BALL AND HOW HE FINISHES – As mentioned, Walker is the most effective if he handles the ball and uses ball screens. Walker is very versatile player and can score in numerous ways – really good outside shooter (prefers to shoot the ball over attacking all the way to the rim). He will shoot the ball from any situation on the floor - has the ability to set his feet really quick as well as to pull up off the dribble from either hand and knock down outside/mid-range jumpers. He knows how to play the game and understands how to attack defense depending on how he is guarded. He has decent handles and can create his own shot. Walker is aggressive player but patient at the same time always looking how to attack defends. He has great court vision and will involve his teammates when defense focuses on him (can improve his passing a bit). Has the ability to get all the way to the rim but this is not his strength and this is something he can still get better at. Walker has room to improve his slashing game in order to be even better all-around offensive player.
WHERE AND HOW HE DEFEND – Walker is long and versatile guard also on defense. Has to improve lateral speed and physicality in order to keep perimeter players in front of him all the time. Most of the time he would defend 2 or 3 position, and players who can attack off the dribble. He might struggle in defending them at NBA level or Euroleague level. Howevere he’s a smart player and once he get stronger and become more physical defender he will significantly improve in his half of the court.
HOW HE PLAYS PICK AND ROLL – this is his strength. Walker is 6’6 guard who handles the ball and likes using ball screens most of his offensive possessions. He has really good perimeter shot, and with this being said coming off the pick, his first option is to take pull up jumper. If defense is late on ball screens, for a split of a second, he will use that to release the ball. Moreover he has good court vision and will involve teammates when driving the ball coming off the pick.
RIGHT FIT FOR HIM – team with a lot of movement on offensive end. Team that uses a lot of sets, and a lot of ball screen. He lives in ball screens and he has to be put in situations where he can handle the ball and use picks.
