NCAA UNDERGROUND: take note for your team in Europe...Max Landis - IPFW

Effective scorer at combo guard. Can shoot from any distance…

NCAA

WHERE HE PLAYS – 6-2 Combo guard – he is most effective as a SG, however he can also help as a PG in some situations thanks to his court awareness and vision.

PHYSICAL SKILLS – Decent speed and explosive first step with the ball, below average leaping ability who can improve his lateral movement. Average body frame for his position.

WHERE HE RECEIVES THE BALL AND HOW HE FINISHES – Landis is a very effective SG with great perimeter shot. He will knock down 3 if he is open for a split of a second – has quick release and sets up his feet quickly in order to shoot the ball on the catch. He is at his best from spot up/catch and shoot situations and coming off screens. Landis has deep NBA range and if defense is not present on the catch he will shoot the ball (shooting 46% from behind the arc on his last season). He is also decent shooter off the dribble and can knock down pull up jumpers, but catch and shoot is his strength. Landis has decent handles and with this being said he can help out on PG position and use ball screens. As mentioned, Landis has explosive first step with the ball and he is decent distributor who will pass the ball to an open teammate. Offensively he is the most effective as a spot up shooter.
NEGATIVES – creating his shot off the dribble with consistency; finishing around the rim in traffic.

WHERE AND HOW HE DEFEND – perimeter players – 1-2. Reliable on ball defender who will not give up on defensive plays. Can keep guards in front, however has to improve footwork. Decent lateral quickness but overall on ball defense could still improve. Has to improve his off ball defense – getting through screens and not falling asleep on the weak side.

HOW HE PLAYS PICK AND ROLL – offense & defense – He can use ball screens, and will look to pass the ball most of the time when using pick. With his shooting capabilities he can knock down jumpers off the dribble, but most of the time he looks to pass the ball when using ball screens as opposite defense will stay close to him and he’s able to create for others. Could improve his defense in ball screen situations – has to get faster through screens and use angles so he doesn’t get stuck.

RIGHT FIT FOR HIM – team with a lot of staggers and screens, also it would be beneficial if PG is good distributor so he can spot up and wait for kick outs. Can give quality minutes at point guard to his team.
