NCAA UNDERGROUND: take note for your team in Europe...Martin Breunig - Montana
German. Reliable. Body and mentality ready for the Pro’s.
WHERE HE PLAYS – 6-8 Power Forward, mostly around the basket
PHYSICAL SKILLS – average athlete for his position; decent speed; good explosive first step, average leaping ability.
WHERE HE RECEIVES THE BALL AND HOW HE FINISHES – Breunig is skilled player who is at his best around the basket. Shooting over 60% from the field, Breunig has soft touch around the rim. He runs the floor really well in transition, where he likes to go straight to the block, post up and play 1 on 1. In the half court, he has good low post moves, can play with his back to the basket, as well as to face up and attack off of 1 or 2 dribbles. Very skilled player with good footwork. In the low post, he prefers finishing with his right hand. Back to the basket he can easily create his own shot and score the ball close to the basket, usually going to his left shoulder. Moreover one of his strengths is his face-up game; he likes getting the ball in the high post, isolating his defender at the elbow and attacking off the dribble – Breunig has explosive and long first step and can get to the rim. Moreover, he is good FT shooter and gets to the line 7 times per game. he is always present on the glass, looking to get put-backs and second chance pts.
NEGATIVES: perimeter shot (not good shooter overall, can hit some mid range shots, but this is far from being his offensive game); finishing with his left hand around the basket especially vs stronger and more athletic defenders.
WHERE AND HOW HE DEFEND – good rebounder on the defensive end (6 rebs per game); average defender who can defend positions 4 and 5. More effective defender around the basket than out on the perimeter. In order to be more effective defender in 1 on 1 situations he has to improve his lateral movement and footwork.
HOW HE PLAYS PICK AND ROLL – offense & defense – rolls to the basket every time, looking to get low post touches and attack either with his back to the basket or face up and attack of the dribble. Defensively, capable of showing (hedging) on ball screens and recovering to his player..Switching ball screens would not be the preferred since he would not be effective in keeping faster guards in front of him.
RIGHT FIT FOR HIM – slower pace team with patience offensively, and a lot of low post touches.
