NCAA UNDERGROUND: take note for your team in Europe... Jake White - Omaha
Big, knows how to use his body and shoot 80% from the line…
WHERE HE PLAYS –White is a 6-8 four-man / undersized 5.
PHYSICAL SKILLS – Strong and physical player; not overly fast; lacks explosiveness and speed, good upper and lower body strength, good stamina; lacks leaping ability.
WHERE HE RECEIVES THE BALL AND HOW HE FINISHES – White is useful player who can be very effective on the offensive end of the floor because of his versatility and basketball IQ. White is good mid-range shooter and will knock down jumpers mainly from catch and shoot situations. He has good form, sets his feet quickly and has ability to hit open jumpers from anywhere on the floor. Even though he has shown ability to hit shots from behind the arc, his strength is to stay in the mid range. Moreover, White is also very useful at the blocks (getting fouled). He uses his strength to back down defenders and create scoring opportunities for himself while also facing up and using his jumper is a good scoring repertoire (likes to face up a lot). White is very good at getting to the free throw line, since he plays smart at the low post and knows how to get fouled when gets the ball around the basket. He is shooting very good % from the floor, mainly because he takes good shots, doesn’t force anything and plays smart. He is smart player who can score the ball equally good from the mid range and from the low post. Plays hard and physical on offensive and defensive glass and doesn’t back up from contact. Weaknesses – finishing over more athletic players around the rim (at the next level), creating off the dribble when catching the ball in the mid range; his speed and explosiveness; low post moves with his back to the basket.
WHERE AND HOW HE DEFEND – most effective around blocks/as low post defender. He brings strong and physical presence in the paint. White is tough player who can be effective low post defender because of his strength and toughness. Decent rebounder (doesn’t back up from contact, however can still improve his rebounding game). He lacks lateral speed and because of this reason he struggles to defend faster PF who can create off the dribble from the perimeter. Not good shot blocker (lacks explosiveness and leaping ability)
HOW HE PLAYS PICK AND ROLL – offense & defense – in ball screens, his strength is to pop out and knock down mid range jumpers. He is not as effective when poping to the 3pt line because if he cant shoot the ball, creating off the dribble is not his stronger side. However, catch and shoot right off the pick from the mid range is what he prefers to do. Moreover, White is also more than capable of rolling to the basket and catching the ball in the low post where he can cause some problems with his ability to get fouled or score from the block. Defensively most of the time he is in drop position, protecting penetrations.
RIGHT FIT FOR HIM – slower pace team, with set offense; ball screens
