NCAA UNDERGROUND: take note for your team in Europe... Ladarius Tabb - Alabama A&M

Wild offensive player, with no NBA position, well that’s true… but he always score 20 or more

NCAA

WHERE HE PLAYS – 3 man, wing player – 6-5 feet tall. used as 4 man, in certain situations, but wing position is his natural position

PHYSICAL SKILLS – very good athlete; good leaping ability, decent explosiveness off the ground, good length, physical

WHERE HE RECEIVES THE BALL AND HOW HE FINISHES – Tabb is very dangerous in transition; this is his first option to score the ball. He is capable of putting the ball on the floor and attacking in the open court, but what he really looks in fast break situations is to run wide, get the ball around the 3pt line and attack the basket of 1-2 dribbles. He uses his athleticism well in order to score in fast break. In the half court, he is very active and aggressive offensive player – very good offensive rebounder, always active on glass looking for put backs; moves well without the ball and looks for scoring cuts (scores decent amount of points from this segment). Not great perimeter shooter but will shoot the ball without hesitation if he is open. Tabb also uses his speed and explosiveness to attack of the dribble (straight line drives, out of 1-2 dribbles; prefers going to his left), as well as his physicality to get to the rim. With this being said he also gets fouled decent amount of times and gets himself to the line (6 ft attempts per game). Moreover, he will look to post up defenders when he has size/strength advantage.
WEAKNESSES: Shooting – he is streaky outside shooter. Even though he will shoot the ball from spot up situations every time he has an opportunity, this is far away from being his strength. Has to improve in this segment in order to open up his slashing game. Creativity with the ball – Tabb is not creative off of his drives; usually he will try to use his physicality and athleticism to get to the rim, but he is not a player who will use his ball handles and ability to beat defense and create an open shot for himself. Finishing in traffic is also not his strength – what he is good at is putting the ball on the glass and creating second shot opportunities for himself.

WHERE AND HOW HE DEFEND – when his team doesn’t play zone; since Alabama A&M played a lot of zone defense; Tabb defends out on perimeter positions, usually guarding players who play off the ball. Considering his athletic ability he should be better defender. Considering his wingspan, speed and physicality he has potential to be a very good defender which he hasn’t shown. Tabb has to improve his lateral movement in order to keep players in front of him at the next level. He is very good on glass on both ends of the floor.

HOW HE PLAYS PICK AND ROLL – offense & defense – doesn’t play ball screens at all; as mentioned he is not creative with the ball nor great ball handler and using picks is not his offensive strength. Defensively he is capable of switching with bigs in ball screens situations.

RIGHT FIT FOR HIM – fast pace team, who likes playing up and down.
