NCAA UNDERGROUND: take note for your team in Europe... Robert Brown - UAB

UAB is on top of conference-USA… let’s meet his main Senior.

NCAA

WHERE HE PLAYS – 6-4 shooting guard.

PHYSICAL SKILLS – Good athlete, wiry body (could get stronger, especially for competing at the next level), decent speed and good leaping ability

WHERE HE RECEIVES THE BALL AND HOW HE FINISHES – Brown is a pure 2-guard with a good outside shot. His strength is his ability to catch and shoot the ball from behind the 3pt line. Brown has good shooting form and quick release, and he gets quickly into his shot. Most of his perimeter shots are from spot up situations. Moreover Brown has ability to create his shot off the dribble, mostly taking the ball all the way to the rim. He has decent handles and can use his ability to handle the ball in ball screen situations. He is decent slasher, and as mentioned he can take the ball all the way to the rim and create his own shot. Brown is a decent passer as well, and he likes to share the ball with his teammates. He has decent floor vision for a 2 guard. Brown is solid player who will not turn the ball over and doesn’t put himself in the situation where he is not comfortable at.
NEGATIVES: even though he has ability to create his own shot off the dribble and take the ball to the hoop, he is not great finisher through contact and has to improve in this segment. He is good catch and shoot shooter with average pull up jumper – could improve and use more his mid-range pull up jumper. Has to get stronger (upper body).

WHERE AND HOW HE DEFEND – Good on ball defender with decent lateral quickness and footwork. Can defend positions 2 and 3, and can keep players in front of him. Could be more physical defender and has to improve off the ball defense (getting through screens and being able to see both, ball and his man, since he has tendencies to fall asleep).

HOW HE PLAYS PICK AND ROLL – Brown is capable of playing in ball screen situations; most of the time he will try to score coming off the pick, by taking the ball all the way to the basket. He has floor vision and will pass the ball if someone is open. Brown will not complicate things too much when coming off the pick. As mentioned above, mid range pull up or shooting off the dribble would be great option for him when coming off the pick (he doesn’t do this too often and misses this segment in his offensive repertoire).

RIGHT FIT FOR HIM – team where he will have the opportunity to score the ball. Doesn’t have to have ball in his hands too much in order to be productive, will not force shots, but will use his opportunity smartly, when he can.
