NCAA UNDERGROUND: take note for your team in Europe... Anthony Beane - SIU

The best NCAA scorer you probably haven’t heard of…

NCAA

The best scorer you probably haven’t seen play yet…

WHERE HE PLAYS – combo guard. Better if he plays off the ball – 2; but can help on PG position if needed.

PHYSICAL SKILLS – good athlete, good speed and explosiveness; good leaping ability. Decent body strength (can improve in this area)

WHERE HE RECEIVES THE BALL AND HOW HE FINISHES – Beane is a scorer who always looks to attack. Versatile offensive player who is constant threat every time he has ball in his hands. Beane can score in numerous ways – will attack in transition and use his speed to get all the way to the rim. He has good handles and can create his own shot from ISO situations in the half court. Likes to attack of the dribble- uses his handles well in order to create separation from his defender and knock down pull up jumpers (from behind the arc and mid range), and will also use his aggressiveness to get all the way to the rim and finish. Beane is strong with the ball and has decent body control on his drives. As mentioned, he prefers to attack of the dribble, however he is more than good spot up shooter, and will knock down perimeter jumpers if defense is not present on the catch (shooting 41% from behind the arc). Overall, very good scorer who can create his shot and can score the ball in numerous ways. Prefers to play with ball in his hands (ISO situations and ball screens).
NEGATIVES: has to improve passing (at the next level he might have to play more as a PG, because of his size, and for this reason, passing is not h
Strength); he uses his pull up jumper often, which is one of his main scoring options, but he can be more consistent when shooting off the dribble (shot selection is also a factor in this statement).

WHERE AND HOW HE DEFEND – has to be more aggressive on ball defender; has good athleticism to be a much better on-ball defender than he is. Lateral movement and footwork has to get better, as well as not giving up on defensive plays (in 1 on 1 situations and in ball screens situations). Would have trouble to keep faster combo guards in front.

HOW HE PLAYS PICK AND ROLL – offense & defense – likes playing in ball screen situations. As mentioned, Beane prefers to play with ball in his hands and most of the time he uses pick, he will try to score and attack. Since he is versatile offensive player, in ball screen situations he can score the ball in numerous ways, depending whats open – likes to use pull up jumper, however he will attack the basket if he can. Scoring is first option when using pick. Could improve his ball screens defense (being more aggressive on the ball and not giving up on the play when he gets screened)

RIGHT FIT FOR HIM – team that will use him a lot in ISO/1 on 1 situations and ball screen situations; team where he will have the ball a lot and necessary freedom on the offensive end.
