NCAA UNDERGROUND: take note for your team in Europe... Ameen Tanksley - HOFSTRA

Sportando Pro - Never had problems in scoring twenty. Now he’s doing it shooting 40% from threes…

NCAA

WHERE HE PLAYS – wing player – 2/3 – because of his size and body at the next level he can play as full-time 3.

PHYSICAL SKILLS – Strong and physical player, good body frame. Decent athlete, doesn’t have exceptional leaping ability (average), average speed (good lateral speed defensively). Likes contact and prefers to create contact.

WHERE HE RECEIVES THE BALL AND HOW HE FINISHES – Tanksley likes to attack off the dribble. He is strong perimeter player, who likes using his body and explosive first step in order to penetrate off the catch and get in the paint. He is left handed, however, he can go either way in order to get to the basket. Hofstra plays spread out offense and he is good in this system, because he uses spacing on the floor to his advantage – Tanksley can create his own shot, he is aggressive player who waits for his opportunity and will attack in ISO/1 on 1 situations off the dribble, when he has a chance, and use his strong body to get to the basket. Moreover he is very good perimeter shooter, who takes good shots – he is the most comfortable from catch and shoot situations. Tanksley understands spacing on the floor well, moves well off the ball, and will shoot the ball from behind the arc every time he has an opportunity. He is capable of shooting off the dribble (mostly off his right hand), however this is not his strength. Negatives: He is not overly creative off the dribble, most of his drives are straight line drives. Doesn’t really have developed mid range game – if he puts the ball on the floor, most of the time he will go to the hoop, while from behind the arc, he will shoot mostly catch and shoot.

WHERE AND HOW HE DEFEND – good defender, decent lateral speed. Tanksley wants to play defense and can keep perimeter players in front – he is comfortable defending 2-3 position off the dribble. Decent rebounder (could improve in this segment).

HOW HE PLAYS PICK AND ROLL – offense & defense – doesn’t play in ball screen situations too often. He is capable of playing pick, and will try to attack most of the time coming of ball screens, but this is not his strength.

RIGHT FIT FOR HIM – spread out offense where he can wait for good opportunity and attack off the dribble from the perimeter. Prefers to drive the ball and attack in iso/1 on 1 situations – spread out offense with good spacing is where he feels comfortable. Moreover as mentioned he is really good catch and shoot player who will take good (unforced, perimeter) shots and spots up well off the ball.
