Wisconsin Badgers head coach Bo Ryan announced his retirement, effective immediately.
Per Sportingnews, In an emotional press conference, Ryan said he was stepping away from the program in the middle of his 15th season, effective immediately.
“This way, we finish up the last game of the semester,” Ryan said in a televised press conference. “I still have some people on the staff I want to talk to. Please understand this is going to take a little time.”
Ryan’s longtime assistant Greg Gard, who has been with Ryan since 1993, will take over on an interim basis. Ryan has been at Wisconsin since 2001 and has taken the Badgers to the NCAA Tournament each year. While the Badgers (7-5) have struggled this season, they were in the Final Four each of the past two seasons and lost to Duke in the national championship game last April.
