Jobey Thomas retires, joins Charlotte IMG radio team
Thomas spent the last three seasons of his pro career playing in Portugal. The last two seasons, he played an integral role in helping his S.L. Benfica team, which is in Lisbon, capture the league title
Charlotte IMG has announced that former 49ers standout guard Jobey Thomas (1998-02) has been added as the color analyst for Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball radio broadcasts on the Charlotte IMG Radio Network.
“I am a really excited to be back closely associated with the 49ers family,” Thomas said. “It is a wonderful opportunity to have the chance to talk 49ers basketball.”
During his stellar four-year career with the 49ers, Thomas played in postseason play in each of four years with one trip to the NIT and three NCAA Tournament berths. He played an integral role in helping the 49ers capture the 1999 and 2001 Conference USA Tournament titles.
Thomas still holds the Conference USA and school-record for three-point field goals made in a career with 346 threes. He ranks 12th in Conference USA and eighth in school-history with 1,737 career points. Thomas also holds the school record for career games played (130) and games started (119). Thomas earned All-Conference USA honors twice including being named first-team All-Conference USA in 2002 after leading Charlotte in scoring at 18.5 points per game.
Thomas joins the 49ers broadcast crew after a successful 13-year professional basketball career in Europe. He played his first 10 season in Italy.
