NCAA UNDERGROUND weekly: Kyle Collinsworth &....
Sportando U. Teams of the Week and "you don't know (or maybe you know) how good is..
YOU DON’T KNOW (OR MAYBE YOU KNOW….) HOW GOOD IS…
G/F – Kyle Collinsworth (BYU)
A week averaging 16 points, 12rebounds and 5 assists explains just a little part of what Kyle can do on a basketball court. He’s as versatile as you can find players in NCAA basketball, can create off the dribble and has an old-style effective in-between game. Loves to attack the rim hard with smart moves drawing fouls and has a rare combination of timing and athletic ability for rebounding under both boards; His solid defense can be useful both on wings and quick point guard… Torn ACL on his right knee last march, is now definitely just a bad memory.
SPORTANDO-U. TEAM OF THE WEEK (UNRANKED TEAM)
G – Kharon Ross (Lehigh)
Fake freshman. Leads his team past Arizona State in Tempe through a triple overtime battle. He plays 49 minutes of flawless unselfish basketball. In the OTs makes two crucial pullup jumpers that confirms his technical leadership and maturity as a player. Finishes with 15 points, 14 assist with only 2 turnovers. If they’re able to keep the young core of this team together, look for Lehigh in the next two years.
G – Madarious Gibbs (Texas Southern)
Leader of the Tigers revolution. Huge win in East Lansing vs the Spartans with 9 heavy points, 9 rebounds playing every single minutes of the 45 needed to close the game. His basketball is not always mistakes-free, but he’s got heart, lateral speed on defense and can beat his man off the dribble with consistency.
G – Rayvonte Rice (Illinois)
There’s nothing bigger in Champaign than winning a Braggin’ Rights with a three point shot at the buzzer. That’s exactly what Rayvonte did last Saturday leaving his mark on history of the Fighting Illini. He’s a strong 2-guard with amazing rebounding ability and physical strength, now also improving from outside the arc (currently shooting 45% from 3pt)
F/G – Anthony Brown (Stanford)
Big win over Texas in Austin. He scored 25 points confirming his outside shooting skills (4 on 4 from three point) showing improvement in ball handling and ability to finish around the rim. At 6-6 is an intriguing prospect considering he can also switch and guard smaller players.
F – Christian Wood (UNLV)
One of the hottest name among NBA scouts in college basketball. UNLV upset Arizona at Thomas&Mack Center also thanks to his 24 points and 10 rebounds. He’s NBA-raw material: thin, long with above average wingspan and intriguing coordination facing the basket from 3-point line. You know he’s going right when facing but that doesn’t make stopping him any easier.
SPORTANDO-U. TEAM OF THE WEEK (RANKED TEAM)
G – Ryan Arcidiacono (Villanova)
Overtime win over Syracuse shows his control on the Wildcats team. Don’t even look at his box score, he wins games with heart, soul and basketball IQ.
G – Nigel Williams-Goss (Washington)
Huskies beat Oklahoma and stay undefeated; big credit to their quarterback, another unsung hero that brings to the table unselfish basketball with court awareness and visions that translate in dramatic improvement for his teammates numbers.
F – Brice Johnson (UNC)
Puts his mark on a key win vs (then) #12 Ohio State scoring 18 with 9 rebounds and showing his game of versatility and athleticism. Out-running his opponent in the open court situation and making dunks that gets excitement in Chapel Hill
F/C – Karl-Anthony Towns (Kentucky)
It’s just our weekly tribute to the best team of the NCAA. This time going to one of the most amazingly skilled big man that we can remember in the last 20 years of college basketball. You can’t even call a “game” the show they had vs UCLA; 10 rebounds in 20 minutes is just a little something to remind us his status in this game.
C – Mike Tobey (Virginia)
Virginia stays unbeaten and leaves Harvard only one field goal in the entire first half. Mike shows his shooting touch and an improved defensive attitude. Another bad news for UVA opponents: they also got a big man that can guard center and spread the floor on the offense.
