NCAA UNDERGROUND weekly: David Laury and....
Sportando U. Teams of the Week and "you don't know (or maybe you know) how good is..
YOU DON’T KNOW (OR MAYBE YOU KNOW….) HOW GOOD IS…
F – David Laury (Iona)
30pts and 11rebs vs Indiana State. Big man with soft touch using both hands. He’s got quick feet and can beat his man facing the basket. Intriguing prospect for FIBA leagues, he’ll be 25 at the end of his college career. Must improve on defensive focus.
SPORTANDO-U. TEAM OF THE WEEK (UNRANKED TEAM)
G – Gary Payton II (Oregon State)
Even if coming on an easy win, we can’t ignore his triple double with 6 steals. Gary has a special fire inside, technical tendency of attacking the rim on every possession and, at 6-3, a rare timing for rebound (averaging 9.7 per game!). Just don’t compare him to his father…
G – T.J. Price (Western Kentucky)
Leads the Hilltoppers with 26 points to big win at Ole Miss with a remarkable shooting performance in 2nd half, never forcing a shot and going perfect from the line. Add 10 rebounds to the mix… he also scored 29 few days later vs Chicago State.
F – Josh Richardson (Tennessee)
Athletic slasher with above average defensive skills, is also improving on having a more consistent scoring impact on the game. Keeps Tennessee home record perfect against (then)#15 Butler, he contributes with 20 points and 6 steals.
C – Brad Waldow (St.Mary’s)
11-11 and 5 assist in Overtime win at Creighton. Post player with variety of moves around the basket and amazing passing skills, knows how to use his big body to protect the ball and draw fouls. Also becoming a 70% free throw shooter…
C – Amida Brimah (UConn)
Fouled out with 0 points vs Duke yesterday… but we can’t report last Sunday 40-points performance vs Coppin State. We were more impressed by his 14-16 from the line than what happened around the rim where dunk after dunk he finished perfect from the field (13-13).
SPORTANDO-U. TEAM OF THE WEEK (RANKED TEAM)
G – Monte Morris (Iowa State)
With Dejean-Jones suspended, Iowa State beats the big rival Hawkeyes in Iowa City, thanks to this amazing sophomore. It’s not about numbers, it’s about the way he leads his offense, plays the pick and roll and scores when his teammates need it. He had also 8 turnovers in total… so far in the season!!
G – Devin Booker (Kentucky)
Be ready, we’ll have at least one Wildcat every week here. Devin brings instant offense off the bench, helping to make a run in 1st half vs UNC, while he stays perfect from the 3-point arc (3/3).
G – Byron Wesley (Gonzaga)
Former USC leading scorer coming back home in L.A. Scores 20 with 9 rebounds and key defensive contribution to help Zags getting a W at Pauley Pavilion.
F – Darius Carter (Wichita State)
Big body from Lebronville (formerly known as Akron,OH), he’s the man down-low for the Shockers. Scored 16 with a big-time dunk down the stretch vs Alabama in Wichita State toughest W of the season.
C – Jahlil Okafor (Duke)
Happy birthday with a Twenty-twenty vs Elon just to remind everyone that he’s the best post player in college basketball.
