Lauren Hill will now fight cancer from the bench, according to Sportingnews.

Hill has ended her collegiate playing career and become an honorary coach for Mount St. Joseph in Ohio, head coach Dan Benjamin wrote Wednesday in an email to the media, including The Associated Press. The freshman, who has an inoperable brain tumor, played her final game Tuesday.

"She stepped onto the court one last time in her college career and again fought the odds and made a basket that brought everyone in the gym to their feet," Hill's family wrote in a Facebook post, according to the AP. "At the end of the game, she accepted a donation from Wooster toward her $1 million goal.

"It was incredible to see her continue to show such resolve and determination and continue to play strong both on the court and in life."

Hill, 19, wants to raise $1 million for cancer research by the end of the year. "That'd be really awesome (to reach her goal). That'd be the best Christmas present,"' she told the Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Daugherty.

Hill is receiving home hospice care as the disease spreads.
