The young Jayhawks won a big game against No.8 Iowa State despite 24 turnovers -13 combined for Wiggins and Embiid-. After a balanced first half (36-36), Kansas had a 16-5 run and lead the rest of the way: Andrew Wiggins had 17 points, a career high 19 rebounds (the Jayhawks outrebounded 53-36 the Cyclones) and 3 assist, while Joel Embiid added 16 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists , 2 steals and 5 blocks. Great performance also of junior pointguard Naadir Tharpe, 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assist with 7 of 9 from the floor and 6 of 7 from the foul line.
Coach Hoiberg had the usual production from former Marshall senior guard DeAndre Kane (21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals), but his team hit just 22 of 70 from the field (4 of 25 from long range).
