Baylor is one of the few NCAA teams with size, length and athleticism comparable to the Kentucky frontcourt of Kentucky. The Bears won 67-62 thanks to a 26-12 run in the last 13 minutes, dominating under the boards (41-25). The top scorer was junior point guard Kenny Cherry with 18 points (8 of 15 from the field) plus 5 assists, sophomore center Isaiah Austin closed with 13 points (5 of 10 from the field), 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 blocked shots, while powerful sophomore power forward Rico Gathers had 13 rebounds and 3 steals in 22 minutes.
For the Wildcats only 2 points off the bench - Alex Poythress just 6 minutes on the court-, beastly power forward Julius Randle scored 16 points (5 of 10 from the field, 6 of 8 free throws) with 8 rebounds and 4 assists, while shooting guard Aaron Harrison ended with 15 points (3 of 5 from long range) and 6 assist.
