Former Andrea Bargnani coach Castellano: With him, from the man perspective, I think I failed
Castellano coached Bargnani since he was 11 for 7 years: You could see his talent a mile away
Ex basketball player and coach Roberto Castellano, the man that “discovered” Andrea Bargnani, used not sweet words against the former 1st overall pick of the 2006 NBA draft.
Castellano is a historic name in Italian and Roman basketball.
“I have coached him for seven years. He arrived to my team that he was 11 and he was 195cm tall. You could see his talent a mile away. And a great story began, made of thousands of kilometers” Castellano told La Verità. “I have literally melted my car making more than 100km per day from Olgiata, where he lived, to Montesacro (Olgiata and Montesacro are two districts in Rome), where we were practicing. We had thousand trips and thousand chats. We did that to help his family who had just moved to Rome. I used to pick him up at school and bring home at night” Castellano added, admitting that something did not work out. “Treviso, the first pick at the draft, a dream that came true. But suddenly: the darkness. But I hold no grudges against him. The ingratitude belongs to this world and lives in many hearts. I have not spoken to him for years. I don’t see him anymore. He forgot everyone. I hope one day he will realize that. I did half of my job with him. My philosophy is growing players but also, and mostly, men. With Bargnani, from the man perspective, I think I failed’” Castellano added.
