Warriors' Steve Kerr says Patrick McCaw won backup minutes at shooting guard over Nick Young

McCaw is the backup at shooting guard for the Warriors

Patrick McCaw became the backup shooting guard for the Warriors. At least for now.

Per San Jose Mercury News, The Warriors’ bench rotation will continue to change. Warriors coach Steve Kerr has clarity, though, on if Patrick McCaw or Nick Young will assume the team’s backup shooting guard spot.
“I’m going to be going with Patty,” Kerr said following the Warriors’ 112-92 victory over the Spurs on Thursday. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t change. He’s clearly played well and earned it.”
Though the 22-year-old McCaw has averaged only 2.7 points in 11.7 minutes through seven games, the Warriors like his offensive and defensive versatility as well as his work ethic. Young has averaged 6.0 points on 46.7 percent shooting in 12.7 minutes in seven games, but the Warriors have noted him struggled with his conditioning and mastery of the system.
Young respectfully declined to comment, while McCaw respectfully expressed gratitude.
“My mentality is not necessarily changing,” McCaw said. “When I get my opportunity to play, I feel like I’ll be ready. Coaches are telling me to be aggressive. So I’ll go out there and have fun.”
