The 76ers have not picked up yet the option on Jahlil Okafor’s contract.
Philadelphia is still undecided whether to guarantee the contract of Okafor for next season (he is scheduled to make more than $6 million).
Per Philly.com, As of Tuesday morning, the 76ers had not picked up Jahlil Okafor’s option for the 2018-19 season. A league source said trade discussions will determine the team’s decision before Tuesday night’s deadline.
Okafor, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft, is in line to make $6.3 million in what would be his fourth year, if the option is picked up.
As for Okafor, the team has been trying to trade him for more than two seasons. However, teams are unwilling to give up what the Sixers believe is equal value. Okafor’s injury history and the perception that he is a defensive liability have a lot to do with why the Sixers have been unable to move him.
