Doug McDermott will be free agent after next season but he already made it clear: he wants to remain in OKC.
Per The Oklahoman, McDermott, who has one year left on his rookie contract and will be a free agent next summer – said he’d “love to be” in Oklahoma City for the long haul. But he doesn’t want to just play for the Thunder. He wants to make plays for the Thunder. And that’s part of the reason why he’s spending so much time in his new city this summer.
McDermott’s chief regret, he said, is that the trade didn’t happen earlier in the season. “I’ve always really loved the Thunder,” said McDermott, who grew up in the Midwestern college towns where his father, Greg, coached basketball, and rooted for the team from the time it relocated from Seattle to OKC. “I always wanted to play here.”
