Washington Wizards point guard John Wall has received the 2015-16 Seasonlong NBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by Kaiser Permanente in recognition of his many charitable efforts and yearlong dedication to community outreach, the NBA announced today. The award recognizes an NBA player who best reflects the passion that the league and its players share for giving back to their communities.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected as the 2016 Seasonlong NBA Cares Community Assist Award winner and would like to thank all the fans and my many friends who voted for me on social media,” said Wall. “I am privileged to be in a position to better my communities in both Washington and Raleigh and I consider the outreach that I do to be the most rewarding part of being an NBA player.”

Wall has established himself as a perennial All-Star both on the court and in the community, with his vast charitable endeavors enriching his adopted home of Washington, D.C., as well as his hometown of Raleigh, N.C. As part of his commitment to both cities, Wall has captained numerous initiatives since the end of last season. During the offseason, he sponsored the Team Wall AAU basketball program in Raleigh and hosted two back to school events where he provided 300+ students from Washington and Raleigh with backpacks full of school supplies. As the season grew closer, Wall sponsored “Miyah’s Troupe” and participated in the D.C. Light The Night Walk, supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Later that month, he donated $400,000 to Bright Beginnings Inc. (BBI), a charity that serves children whose families live in shelters/transitional housing and provides childcare and educational services for 200+ children per day, and provided monetary donations to LLS (The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) as well as the Boys and Girls Club of America, where he also sponsors the Passport to Manhood Program. He continued his annual tradition of giving back during the holiday season by donating 300 Thanksgiving baskets to various organizations in Raleigh and hosting a Christmas dinner for a group from the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington’s Passport to Manhood Program. Throughout the 2015-16 season, Wall anchored three Wizards Make-A-Wish nights, providing special memories to ill children. On Jan. 16, he was presented with his Kia NBA Eastern Conference Player of Month award by Jaden Seider, one of the Make-A-Wish participants. Most recently, Wall outfitted 10 high school seniors from various community organizations with Sean John suits for their upcoming proms.
