Anthony on All-Star Game: I'd love to play, but if I can't, I can't

Sore knee could keep Knicks' Carmelo Anthony out of All-Star Game

NBA

Carmelo Anthony is doubtful for the All-Star Game in New York due to his sore knee.

Carmelo Anthony is unlikely to play tonight against the Magic and may miss the All-Star Game.

Per Newsday,  Anthony opened up more Tuesday after "irritating" his bothersome left knee in Monday's loss to the Heat. He said he doesn't have loose cartilage, and that it's "more with the tendon." He also said after he has surgery, he would be away from the court for about eight weeks and "be back way before camp" starts in the fall.

As for his immediate future, it's been widely believed that Anthony put off the inevitable surgery to play in the All-Star Game in front of his home fans. But Anthony, who was voted in as a starter for the game, said "it's worse" than usual and that if he's still in pain this weekend, he may be a spectator.
"I would love to play, but if I can't, I can't," Anthony said after practice at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. "I won't even try to force it even though the game will be in New York and I would love to play in front of that crowd. But if I can't go, I can't go."

When asked if he will have an arthroscopic procedure, Anthony said he wasn't sure.
"I don't really know the name of exactly what it is," he said. "They're not really telling me the name of it. Honestly, they're not telling me the name of the procedure. When I know, you'll know. I'm telling you.

"It's no cartilage. It's more with the tendon . . . But like I said, I don't want to give you the wrong intel and have my team doctors texting me and upset with me because I gave the wrong intel. When I get the full intel of exactly what it is, you guys will have it."
