Blazers reassign Luke Babbit to Idaho Stampede

Portland Trail Blazers forward Luke Babbitt was reassigned to the Idaho Stampede, Portland’s NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced today. The assignment marks the 41st time in the 2010-11 season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate, and it is the second assignment for Babbitt, a rookie out of Nevada-Reno.
Babbitt (6-9, 225) was first assigned on Dec. 8. He averaged 18.0 points and 5.8 rebounds in 27.3 minutes over four games with Idaho before being recalled. Babbitt has appeared in 21 games for the Trail Blazers this season, averaging 1.1 points in 4.8 minutes.
Portland acquired Babbitt in a draft-night deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, who selected him as an early-entry candidate in the first round (16th overall) of the 2010 NBA Draft. In two seasons at Nevada, Babbitt averaged 19.4 points and 8.1 rebounds in 68 games. As a sophomore, Babbitt averaged 21.9 points and 8.9 rebounds, was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year and earned AP All-America Honorable Mention honors.
