Energy Sign John Edwards

In desperate need of a serviceable big man, the Iowa Energy have signed D-League veteran center John Edwards (7'0''-C-81, college: Kent St.). The former Kent State product and NBA veteran began this season with Sioux Falls where he averaged 9.3 points and 6.9 rebounds in 15 games before being waived earlier this month. In last nights 131-109 drubbing against Reno, the Energy started Steve Newman (6-9), Othyus Jeffers (6-5) and Mark Tyndale (6-5) at the forward positions. While the Energy managed to out-rebound the Bighorns (43-37), it was a block party on the interior for Reno, as they swatted 13 Energy shot attempts, led by Cezary Trybanski (7) and Rod Benson (5). At 7-0, Edwards, who played in the Ukraine last season, will provide an interior presence for the Energy that has been missing since Courtney Sims was signed to a 10-day contract by the New York Knicks last week.
