The Erie BayHawks, NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, announced the acquisition of guard Jonathan Gibson. He was acquired off of waivers.
Gibson (6-2, 185), most recently suited up for the Qingdao DoubleStar Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association. In 38 games (27 starts), Gibson put up 33.7 points on .446 shooting from the floor, 6.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.5 steals in 38.6 minutes of play.
He appeared in 17 games for the Dallas Mavericks during the 2016-17 season, averaging 6.2 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 13.6 minutes of action. Gibson signed a multi-year contract with the Mavericks on July 15, 2016. He was placed on waivers on October 22, 2016. Gibson re-signed with Dallas on November 17, 2016, making his NBA debut the following night against the Memphis Grizzlies. In his debut, he recorded 11 points on 3-6 (.500) shooting from the field, four rebounds, three assists and one steal in 19.5 minutes.
After going undrafted in the 2010 NBA Draft, the New Mexico State product signed with Oyak Renault of the Turkish Basketball Super League. Gibson is a two-time CBA scoring champion, winning in 2014 while playing for the Zhejiang Bulls (32.5 ppg) and in 2016 with the Qingdao DoubleStar Eagles (42.0 ppg). He also won the 2012 Turkish League scoring title while with Tranbzonspor B.K. (19.9 ppg).
