The Delaware 87ers today announced the appointment of assistant coach Andrea Mazzon ahead of the 2015-16 NBA Development League season
A native of Venice, Italy, Mazzon has over 30 years of coaching experience in Europe’s top leagues, including his most recent stint with Reyer Venezia Mestre in Italy’s Lega Basket Serie A. Mazzon coached the league’s All-Star game and was named Runner-Up Coach of the Year. Prior to that, Mazzon was the head coach of Aris Thessaloniki in the Greek Basket League, where he guided his team to Euroleague qualification and the semifinals of the domestic league in each of his two seasons there.
“We’re proud to welcome Coach Mazzon to the 87ers family this season, as we continue to assemble a diversely skilled staff to promote a foundation of growth and development,” said 87ers General Manager Brandon Williams. “This bolsters our approach to both training and game strategies, but just as important, preparing our players for advancement. Andrea’s successful tenure across the highest levels of international basketball will bring a valued perspective and continue to challenge our players and coaches to become their very best.”
Mazzon will join head coach Kevin Young, assistant John Bryant and assistant Norm de Silva on the 87ers staff, each of whom will be entering their second season with the Sevens at their current position. Delaware’s season will begin on Saturday, November 14th at the Grand Rapids Drive, before returning home on Tuesday, November 17th to host the Canton Charge.
