87ers acquire Sean Kilpatrick, Joonas Caven in separate trades
Ronald Roberts will join the Santa Cruz Warriors
The Delaware 87ers today announced the team has acquired guard Sean Kilpatrick, in addition to a 2015 first round pick in the NBA Development League Draft, from the Santa Cruz Warriors in exchange for Ronald Roberts, Jr. and the returning player rights to Darington Hobson. The team also announced the acquisition of Joonas Caven from the Reno Bighorns exchange for Melvin Johnson III and the returning player rights to Elijah Pittman.
The 6-foot-4, 219 pound Kilpatrick averaged 11.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 24.4 minutes per game this season with the Warriors. The 25-year-old rookie was named First Team All-American by a number of outlets after his senior year at Cincinnati in 2013-14, a list which included the Associated Press, USA Today and Sports Illustrated, among others. Kilpatrick led the American Athletic Conference in scoring with an average of 20.6 points per game as a senior.
The Bronx native spent the 2014 NBA Summer League with the Philadelphia 76ers before signing with the Golden State Warriors in October. Kilpatrick was then assigned to Santa Cruz in November, and played 22 games with the D-League Warriors.
Caven, a 6-foot-11, 200 pound forward averaged 3.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in 11.6 minutes per game for the Bighorns this season. A native of Finland, the 22-year-old rookie is NBA Draft eligible in the spring.
