Maverick's D-League team to claim P.J. Hairston
He will be eligible for 2014 draft.
Former North Carolina guard P.J. Hairston will be claimed off waivers by the Dallas Mavericks' Development League affiliate, the Texas Legends, a source told Yahoo Sports.
North Carolina announced on Dec. 20 that it would not seek Hairston's reinstatement from the NCAA. He had been suspended for NCAA violations, including the use of rental cars tied to a convicted felon. Hairston led the Tar Heels in scoring last season as a sophomore with 14.6 points a game and made 89 3-pointers. He filed paperwork on Friday to play in the NBA's D-League.
The Legends were able to select Hairston because they were first on the D-League's waiver list. Hairston will not be eligible to play in the NBA this season and can file to join the 2014 NBA draft.
