This Week in D-League
D-League most interesting news
-ESPNBoston reported that Rajon Rondo is in fact considering a D-League stint with affiliate Maine Red Claws on his way back to form. The Celtics' point guard suffered an ACL tear back in January 25th, and is nearly a year removed from basketball since having his surgery in February.
The most interesting, and obvious, implication here is that of an established superstar player taking on a D-League assignment. Rondo seemingly has no qualms with it, noting, "I think that's what [the D-League] is for." Sitting down with reporters, the four-time all star point guard made a point of a certain advantage a D-League stint would present: game speed. With stars such as Derrick Rose and Kobe Bryant having seen minimal time on the court before returning to injury designation, playing time might do some preventative good.
Rondo also wanted reporters to know that there's no set decision, he might play or he might not. There would be no "heads up" for media, noted Rondo, adding that he, "might pop up and just play." As for reporters looking to catch the Celtics guard's first time back on the court, "you'll have to catch me on YouTube or something."
-Kendall Marshall translated his impressive form in the D-League (19.4 ppg, 9.6 apg, 4.7 rpg, 1.9 spg in seven games) to an eye-popping debut for the Los Angeles Lakers. Marshall scored 20 points, dishing out 15 assists, and bring down 6 rebounds. In his first game as a Laker, Marshall would also make some history:
Kendall Marshall is the first Laker to have a 15-pt, 15-ast game since Gary Payton on Jan. 17, 2004.
