Sources deny Theo Papaloukas' move to Bilbao Basket

La PG lascerà sicuramente il Maccabi Tel Aviv

PapaloukasTheodoros Papaloukas clinched his first and most likely last Israeli championship last night as Maccabi Tel Aviv ran over Maccabi Ashdod, en route to its 50th national title.

While Papaloukas and Maccabi are sure to part ways, the Greek legend's concern now is – where do I go next?

Recent rumors circulating around Europe thanks to the Spanish press are talking about a possible collaboration between Papaloukas and Bilbao Basket.

Yet, research conducted by Sportando reveals that there was no contact between Bilbao and the player's party. In fact, according to sources close to Papaloukas, "Bilbao lost Marko Banic and Aaron Jackson, two of their preliminary players, so they're looking to acquire a big European name. Chances of Papaloukas joining Bilbao? Probably 5%."

Those familiar with Papaloukas' situation estimated the likelihood of him moving to Spain, "Theo will first look to join Euroleague teams and only after will he consider playing for non-Euroleague clubs."

Papaloukas' agent, Giorgos Dimitropoulos, who attended last night's Greek finals Game 2 between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos, was unable to be reached to comment.
